Need a regular sleep schedule

When I went to see my Neurologist last week one of the things we talked about was getting me on a regular sleep schedule. This is something I have battled every day of my life. I remember even growing up my parents would sleep in on the weekends. So it was something that we got use to right as kids.
For as long as I can remember I have always been a night person. My favorite time of day is when the sun is setting, I just love that time of day. The evening time or dinner time. For most people during the week they have dinner do whatever til 10 or 11PM and then go to bed. But for me as soon as that time rolls around I am wide awake! I don't know why this is and for years I have been trying to correct it. I will go to bed at 11PM for 2 days and that is all it will last I am right back to being awake till 6AM and sleeping till 3PM.

Sometimes this changes and I am falling a sleep sitting up at 9PM. This will go on for weeks. I have no choice but to be in bed by 9PM I just can not stay awake., This may just be my Fatigue from the MS. Because when it happens it makes no sense to me because I should not be tired!

So this is something that I want to finally get under control. I want to be in bed every night between 9-11PM. I have not determined what time I should get up. I usually require 10 hours of sleep. So if I go to bed at 9 I will be up at 7 and that just seems early. So I will just have to try the schedule and see how it goes..

I have been up since Yesterday. I thought maybe if I stayed up I would then go to sleep tonight and then it would be easier for me to get on a good schedule since I slept in till late in the afternoon yesterday. The only thing is I am getting really tired and when I get tired I tent to want to snack. So I am going to try to just lay down for a few hours and set my alarm. Now usually when I do this it is hard for me to get back up. So we shall see!

  1. I agree I think that the times when you are just dead tired, and really shouldn't be, that sounds just like fatigue. :( I hope you get a normal sleep schedule down soon! It's hard to change things that have been set in stone since you were little! Wishing you the best of luck and lots of good sleep!

  2. It is so easy to fall into a bad sleeping habit. Years ago I worked the 3-11 and 11-7 shifts at the hospital. I did this for 5 years... I still have a hard time going to bed at a "normal" time...

    Keep working with the Doc!

  3. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. :( I've never been a good sleeper, plus I have sleep apnea, which is one reason why Shawn and I haven't slept in the same bed for nine years. *sigh* I'm hoping as the weight keeps coming off, that will change. Sending you good sleep vibes and lots of hugs.

  4. Thanks for commenting on my blog. You won't believe it but I live in Maricopa too! And, like you, I can't wait to move back to "the city". LOL. We're hoping to be back to civilization by June. Fingers crossed.

I suffer from night terrors so I have days where fatigue just takes over and I can barely function. It sucks! I found that having a good schedule can really make a big difference. Good luck getting on a good one!

  5. I did the night owl thing for years; in fact even as a small child my parents would send my sister and I to bed at 9 and then I would wait for her to fall asleep, sneak out of my room and hang out in the TV room with my parents until I fell asleep because I just couldn't turn my brain off at 9.

It wasn't until I took a job that required waking up at 6:30 am five days a week that I started getting to bed earlier and being able to fall asleep. Regulating what time you go to bed is easiest, I think, when you regulate what time you wake up. Now, even on weekends, I have a hard time sleeping past 7 or 8 because my body has gotten used to going to bed before 11 and waking up before 7.
